Resource Spotlight: An Emergency Plan That Fits Your Support Needs

An emergency plan is most useful when it reflects how you actually live. Florida’s Agency for Persons with Disabilities offers a preparedness guide that families and people with disabilities can use together.
The guide covers supplies for staying home, a separate evacuation kit, important records, and contacts. It also calls attention to medical equipment, batteries, transportation, and supplies for pets or service animals.
Start with everyday essentials
Walk through an ordinary day and note the supports you rely on. Who could help if your usual caregiver could not reach you? What would need to travel with you? Keep key contacts and documents accessible, and review the plan together.
