An older wheelchair user and a companion pause on a wide boardwalk among Florida cypress trees; an illustrative scene.

If Indigenous Peoples’ Day has you wanting to learn more about Florida’s Native communities, consider a visit to the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum on the Big Cypress Seminole Indian Reservation.

Start with We Seminoles, a 20-minute film that tells the Seminole story through Seminole people. Then take your time with the exhibits. We recommend allowing at least two hours for the museum and boardwalk together.

The boardwalk is just over a mile, with seating about every eighth of a mile. The building and boardwalk are wheelchair accessible, and wheelchairs are available.

Plan the outing around the person going. Call ahead about current boardwalk conditions, wheelchair availability and any access needs. You can enjoy the museum without making the full outdoor loop the goal.

The address is 34725 West Boundary Road, Clewiston. Regular hours are 9 am–5 pm, with boardwalk entry closing at 4 pm; check current hours and admission before making the drive. Call 877-902-1113.
