Voting in November? Do the Logistics Check Before October 5

Advice
Voting should be the voter’s choice. The logistics shouldn’t be a surprise.
Election step | 2026 date |
|---|---|
Request a ballot be mailed — deadline | October 22 |
Early voting — statewide required period | October 24–31 |
Election Day | November 3 |
Counties may offer additional early-voting days. Check with your county Supervisor of Elections for the local schedule.
Check three things now
First, confirm that the person is registered and that the name and address are current. Second, decide which voting method feels workable: early voting, Election Day or vote by mail. Third, think through transportation, waiting, communication and any assistance the voter wants.
Florida requires at least one accessible voting system at each polling place. A voter may also choose personal help at the polls without explaining the nature or extent of a disability. The voter can select almost anyone to help, except an employer, an employer’s agent or a union officer or agent. Election workers can provide assistance too.
Support access, not the answer
A family member or support professional can help locate the polling place, arrange a ride, practice using a sample ballot or write down questions for the county Supervisor of Elections. What they shouldn’t do is steer the person’s choices. Assistance is there to make the ballot accessible, not to make the decision for someone else.
Start with the state’s voter-information lookup and then call the county Supervisor of Elections if the voter needs an accessible vote-by-mail option or wants to know which system is used locally. Ten minutes now can save a very long afternoon in November.
