Want to Try a Sport? Start With Your Local Special Olympics Program

Bowling, swimming, basketball—what would you actually like to play? That’s a good place to start, whether you’re looking for a sport for yourself or helping someone else get involved.
Special Olympics Florida offers sports training and competition for eligible athletes age eight and older, including adults. There’s no charge to participate.
Find your local program
Start with your county’s program. You can talk with the local team about which sports are available and how to sign up. You’ll find the registration forms here.
Here's a few questions we think you should be prepared to ask:
Which sports are offered near me?
When and where are practices?
What forms or health information do I need before starting?
Do I need to arrange my own transportation?
What support is available during practice if I need help?
Could I watch or try a practice before deciding?
If you’re helping someone get involved, ask what they want to know, too. They may have questions you haven’t thought of.
Want to play together? Friends and family members without intellectual disabilities can ask about Unified Sports, where Unified partners play alongside Special Olympics athletes. Partners complete a separate registration process.
