Advice

You may want a break and still feel uneasy about someone else stepping in. Both feelings can show up at the same time.

Respite is short-term relief for a primary caregiver. It can be a few hours rather than a long trip. You can use that time to rest, see a friend or do something you’ve been putting off. It doesn’t have to be another errand.

Choose a manageable first visit

Talk with the person receiving support about the plan and their preferences. Agree on the tasks the respite provider will handle, the timing and how to reach you if needed. Ask about costs and availability before confirming anything.

Afterward, compare notes. Was the visit comfortable? Was anything unclear? Those details can help you plan the next break.

CareOne Connected offers respite. If you’re considering a first visit, we’d be happy to talk through your household’s support needs and what you’d like the time to make possible.
